“I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence, but it comes from within. It is there all of the time.”

Hello, I’m Sarah Bishop (BA Hons) (PROF.DIP.PSY.C.) (MNCPS Accred.) (MBACP)
I am a warm, friendly and creative qualified counsellor who has worked with children, young people and parents for over 35 years in different capacities. I have experience as: both a primary school counsellor and secondary school counsellor with the charity Place2Be; a primary school teacher; a nursery manager and teacher; a Higher Level Teaching Assistant; a Special Needs Teaching Assistant; and as a youth worker in holiday clubs. This experience has given me a broad insight into, and respect for, the challenges that children, young people and families face (both internal and external), the diversity of individual children’s needs, and an ability to relate to young people in a way that makes sense to them. |
I am trained as a pluralistic counsellor (see below for more information) incorporating humanistic, psychodynamic and CBT models into my work. This enables me to offer bespoke ways of helping young people dependent upon their needs and preferences, with the aim of empowering them to make decisions and discover solutions that are right for them. I have specific training in working with adolescents and children.
I am an accredited member of the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society) and a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) meeting their professional standards of training and practice and I abide by their code of ethics.
I also have an enhanced DBS certificate and professional indemnity insurance.

TESTIMONIALS
The testimonials below are authentic. I have removed names in order to maintain client confidentiality.
“I would like to take this opportunity to express how grateful we are for everything Sarah has done for M after she was bullied. Her hard work every week with M has made such a difference to her and how she is handling challenging situations. We, as parents, are so grateful and we feel that she is in good hands.” (Parents of client aged 13).
"E has been going from strength to strength following on from your sessions - they really did help to put her back on the right track. So thank you." (Parents of client aged 12).
“Thank you so much for all your support, I’ll miss seeing you every week. You’ve helped me so much and I don’t even know where I’d be without your help.” (Client age 12).
“Sarah provided a safe environment for me to explore my past, a journey to meet the version of myself that was hidden to others and even to myself. Throughout the sessions I felt accepted for who I am and began to accept myself more and worry less about living up to others’ expectations. I truly appreciate both the experience and Sarah’s professional skills.” (client 18+)
"It was great working with Sarah. She helped me finally see for myself what I needed to do. I felt safe and understood. She is a fantastic therapist and is really dedicated to what she does." (Client 18+).
